Median Statistics and the Mass Density of the Universe
نویسندگان
چکیده
We use weighted mean and median statistics techniques to combine individual estimates of ΩM0, the present mean mass density in non-relativistic matter, and determine the observed values and ranges of ΩM0 from different combinations of data. The derived weighted mean ΩM0 values are not good representatives of the individual measurements, under the assumptions of Gaussianity and negligible correlation between the individual measurements. This could mean that some observational error bars are under-estimated. Discarding the most discrepant ∼ 5 % of the measurements generally alleviates but does not completely resolve this problem. While the results derived from the different combinations of data are not identical, they are mostly consistent, and a reasonable summary of the median statistics analyses is 0.2 . ΩM0 . 0.35 at two standard deviations. Subject headings: cosmology: cosmological parameters—cosmology: observation—methods: statistics—methods: data analysis—large-scale structure of the universe

Introducing a New Lifetime Distribution of Power Series Distribution of the Family Gampertz
In this Paper, We propose a new three-parameter lifetime of Power Series distributions of the Family Gampertz with decreasing, increasing, increasing-decreasing and unimodal Shape failure rate. The distribution is a Compound version of of the Gampertz and Zero-truncated Possion distributions, called the Gampertz-Possion distribution (GPD). The density function, the hazard rate function, a gener...

Gravitational waves are considered in thermal vacuum state. The amplitude and spectral energy density of gravitational waves are found enhanced in thermal vacuum state compared to its zero temperature counterpart. Therefore, the allowed amount of enhancement depends on the upper bound of WMAP-5 and WMAP-7 for the amplitude and spectral energy density of gravitational waves. The enhancement of ...

In Wesson's canonical model, the universe is assumed to be five dimensional (5D) empty space time. This model corresponds to a solution of the Einstein field equation in five dimensions which, from a four dimensional point of view, is equivalent to a universe with a positive cosmological constant. In this model, the fifth direction is perpendicular to the four dimensional space time and is not...
متن کاملRelationship of Weight and Body Mass Index with Femur and Lumbar Vertebrae Bone Mineral Density and Content in Premenopausal Women
Purpose: Given that weight and body mass index (BMI) are considered as modifiable factors in osteoporosis, the present study aimed to examine the relationship of weight and BMI with bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) at the femur and lumbar vertebrae in perimenopausal women. Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, we measured the bone density of the femur and...
متن کاملLuminosity density estimation from redshift surveys and the mass density of the Universe
In most direct estimates of the mass density (visible or dark) of the Universe, a central input parameter is the luminosity density of the Universe. Here we consider the measurement of this luminosity density from red-shift surveys, as a function of the yet undetermined characteristic scale RH at which the spatial distribution of visible matter tends to a well defined homogeneity. Making the ca...
